“Summertime Serenade”
|
There’s ants in the coffee, and beetles in the punch, the ravens and the blue jays, just flew away with lunch
The chipmunks ate the peanuts, frogs are swimming in the wine, it’s a picnic for the creatures, when comes the summertime
There’s rodents in the relish, and rabbits in the stew, but we’ve got to share and share alike, no matter what we do
The porcupines are in the pretzels, the raccoons are in the rice, everybody’s happy, and the weather’s really nice
Now that the gnats are in the nachos, and the beavers have the beef, we’ll eat out of sardine cans, and munch on lettuce leaf
It’s a picnic in the country, where uninvited guests, are treated just like family, though some people call them pests
They don’t eat much when they stop by, like some folks always do, they’re just part of Mother Nature’s, midsummer’s traveling zoo
Yeah, there’s butterflies in the butter, and ladybugs on the grapes, but there’s plenty left for me and you, so just give thanks for Heaven sakes . . .
