“Fried Eggs and Moon Cheese”

I once threw a party,

 with kittens and puppies,

 salamanders and turtles,

 gold fish and guppies

Rabbits and rodents,

 lizards and snakes,

we had smoothies and orange juice,

 flap jacks and cupcakes

Before very long,

there were geese at the door,

 twenty-seven at first,

 and then a few more

Butterflies showed up next,

 then in came the toads,

 the party was on,

 in my humble abode

The next guests to arrive,

 were pigeons, partridge and quail,

 then in came the pigs,

 with their curly pink tails

The party kept growing,

 as if Noah’s ark,

 we all got along fine,

 until well after dark

When the guest speaker arrived,

 he came on a moose,

 can you believe,

it was old Dr. Seuss ©

When the party was over,

 and my guests headed home,

I sat down with my pen,

 to put it to poem

Come by and join us,

 our next party’s real soon,

 we’re serving fried eggs,

and fresh cheese from the moon . . .
