“The Vet Stopped By”

The country vet stopped by,

 in his pickup truck,

to check the chickens laying eggs,

 and quack to the ducks

He checked out Bessie the cow,

and said her milk was fine,

then with the puppies in the pantry,

 he spent a little time

He said the old goose,

 wasn’t honking quite right,

 but she’d be okay,

 by tomorrow night

He said the beard on the goat,

 could use a little trim,

 and his aroma is strong,

so he could use a brisk swim

He said the horses could use,

 some slippers or shoes,

 and some sugar cubes,

would keep them from the blues

The grasshoppers are fine,

 and the crickets are okay,

 they’re singing just great,

 at the end of day

He said the rabbits are rosy,

 with a carrot or two,

 last week there were four,

 now there’s twenty-two

The pigs are tickled pink,

 in their new play pen,

 and they’ll have another litter,

once the hay is all in

Though the rooster wants to crow,

 when the sun goes down,

he and the Vet had a visit,

 and he’ll come back around

He said the tom cat’s,

 doing a-okay,

 out chasing mice at night,

 and sleeping all day

The catfish are jumping,

 like they’re supposed to do,

and all in all we run,

 a really good zoo

He didn’t leave any bill,

since he had a good time,

he said his charge was some apples,

and some grapes from our vine

All God’s creatures are happy,

 and the dishes are done,

it’s really great when the Vet,

stops by to have fun . . .
