“The Lizard of Oz”
He was translucent green and yellow,
he had six fingers and three toes,
his eyes were day glow orange,
he had scales upon his nose
Just how he learned to talk,
I haven’t any clue,
my heart was glad he had his freedom,
lots of my friends are in a zoo
First he talked about the weather,
he likes it hot and dry,
he ate his breakfast while we talked,
three gnats and then a fly
He asked me why the condos,
were almost everywhere,
He asked me why the desert,
was bulldozed flat and bare
I told him that the silly humans,
were multiplying fast,
and without conservation,
this world may come to pass
He blinked twice then shed a tear,
before I knew it he was gone,
I heard the beeps and rumbling,
from the trucks of early dawn
I still remember how he looked,
while he sunbathed upon a rock,
he said his brother sells insurance,
when we had our little talk
I’ve been back there out in the desert,
but now they call it emerald city,
When humans don’t conserve,
the end results can be a pity . . .
